This video was made to be shown on a ceiling. It
has to be screened in wide format to give the impression of an open-air
interior space, as if a window had been opened to let in the natural light.
Although it is an autonomous artwork –an installation made up of
a single video projection-, the idea comes from the HELL DISCO project.
I thought about using the ceiling as an element for lighting in constant
movement. The ceiling in HELL DISCO was made of projection screen fabric.
It was as if the idea of an upper deck was denied in order to give the
illusion of an invisible ceiling. It was like being out in the open but
inside a sophisticated interior. Artificial Sky is a programmed sky with
clouds in movement that finally create a storm. The lightning that crosses
the sky from time to time is similar to the strobe lights in a dance club.
ARTIFICIAL SKY starts with a bright blue sky in which clouds start to
appear until it gets dark and stormy; a nighttime sky. The graphic flashes
of lightning that eventually appear represent the artificial. The lightning
is a design that reproduces the floor of the Hell Disco installation.
It introduces flashlights in a natural habitat.
Este video está hecho específicamente
para proyectar en el techo. Debe mostrarse en gran formato para semejar
un trozo de cielo abierto en un espacio interior. Es como si recortáramos
una ventana para contemplar la luz natural exterior. A pesar de que es
una pieza autónoma -una instalación compuesta por una sola
proyección de video-, la idea surgió a raíz del proyecto
HELL DISCO. Pensé en utilizar el propio techo como un constante
elemento de luz en movimiento. El techo de Hell Disco se construyó
con tela de retro-proyección. Era como si se negara la idea de
cubierta, ofreciendo la ilusión de un techo invisible. Es como
estar a la intemperie dentro de un recinto sofisticado. Artificial Sky
es un cielo programado con nubes en movimiento que generan una tormenta.
Los rayos que aparecen acuchillando el cielo se asemejan a la luz estroboscópica
de un club. ARTIFICIAL SKY comienza con un brillante cielo azul diurno
en el que van apareciendo nubes hasta convertirse en un cielo oscuro,
con amenaza de tormenta; un cielo de noche. Intercalo rayos gráficos
que representan lo artificial. Estos rayos son un dibujo que reproduce
la planta de la instalación Hell Disco. Son la inclusión
de luz de flash en un hábitat natural.
